Getting Treatment

New Patient Procedure

Getting orthodontic treatment with Dr. Gilbert is an easy and hassle free procedure.

We take great care to ensure you get the best possible dental treatment based on “your” individual needs.

There are several steps to the process so let’s take a closer look.

Your Questions Answered

Preliminary examination
The initial appointment is a clinical examination to determine your orthodontic needs.  We will advise you of any orthodontic problems, the necessary corrective treatment and when treatment should begin.

Diagnostic Records
If treatment is indicated we will schedule follow-up appointments for records to enable the Doctor to study the problems and determine the corrective procedures.  The records consist of impressions of your teeth, x-rays, and photographs

Following the analysis of the diagnostic records an appointment will be made to discuss specific concerns as well as our plan of treatment, its anticipated length and financial arrangements will be discussed.

Family Dentist
You must have your teeth cleaned an all cavities filled before your active orthodontic treatment can begin.  We recommend that you continue to be seen every six months for a cleaning and cavity check after the orthodontic appliances have been placed.

Our goal is to make every effort to accommodate your schedule in setting up orthodontic appointments.  Our priority is to take care of each individual patient in a thorough, professional manner.

Early Corrective Treatment

The benefits of early treatment

For those patients who have clear indications for early intervention, early treatment presents the opportunity to: Influence jaw growth in a positive manner.

  • Harmonize width of the dental arches.
  • Improve eruption patterns.
  • Lower risk of trauma to protruded upper incisors.
  • Correct harmful oral habits.
  • Improve aesthetics and self-esteem.
  • Simplify and/or shorten treatment time for later corrective orthodontics.
  • Reduce likelihood of impacted permanent teeth.
  • Improve some speech problems.
  • Preserve or gain space for erupting permanent teeth.

What if I put off treatment?

The disadvantage of waiting for complete eruption of permanent teeth and having only one phase of treatment for someone with a jaw discrepancy is facing the possibility of a compromised result that may not be stable.
